Contrary to popular belief, the Paleo diet is not just for those looking to shed a few pounds, although it can certainly be one of the benefits. Within the last few years we've learned on a scientific level that our health is directly impacted by what we put in and on our bodies. The modern day diet that we've become accustom to with sugar and gluten, added preservatives and fillers is making us sick. We even see it starting to manifest in our kids at a very young age as gut health issues, allergies and even obesity.
My 9 year old daughter was having some skin issues that caused her face to break out suddenly in itchy, red bumps. It seemed to come out of nowhere and we didn't know what was causing it. We brought her to the doctor and were repeatedly told it was eczema. They said just to put lotion on her face and it will go away. Well, of course we tried that since we wanted to relieve her discomfort, but it didn't work, so next they gave us a steroid cream. I was reluctant to try it, and I was right, as it did more harm than good. Looking for solutions other than those the doctor recommended, I did some research started her on topical probiotics and a really good fish oil along with paleo foods. Within DAYS it was already clearing up! After 6 months of no answers, we finally figured it out. I think everyone can agree with me when I say that as Moms, we are willing and motivated to seek out, find, and do anything for our children's health!
What are some of the other benefits of a Paleo diet? Many studies are finding out that a prolonged Paleo lifestyle will put even autoimmune disorders in remission, so it clearly can help a number of major and minor health complaints. Clearly it is a diet that will do more than just improve your eating, so why not give it a try and reap all the benefits these foods have to offer?
